About us
HÆRVEJSLØBET – the Viking Gran Fondo is Denmark's biggest recurring cycling event and presents a fascinating mix of physical challenges, historical sights and beautiful landscapes for all types of cyclists.
HÆRVEJSLØBET – The Viking Gran Fondo is a both challenging and unforgettable ride along the natural ridge that was formed through Jutland during the last ice age. Here, an ancient road – Hærvejen – has, over the centuries, helped migrants, pilgrims, merchants and Vikings stay dry as they made their way up through Denmark.
Speaking of Vikings, you should definitely be one yourself to overcome our most iconic almost 300 km challenge and its climbs of up to 10%. You will even get to conquer a 650 meters cobblestone climb with hairpin bends!
All routes pass through the beautiful landscape with rolling cornfields, beech forests, hills, lakes and idyllic villages.
Your inner Viking will be nurtured along the way. Not least when you ride through the town of Jelling, a stronghold of famous Viking kings in the tenth century. And as you pass within touching distance of King Harald Bluetooth’s famous rune stone, you can almost imagine Viking horns growing out of your cycle helmet.
While the hardships of this demanding gran fondo will definitely put you to the test, the routes also offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy the ride. Our feed stations are famous not only for their great food but also for their even better atmosphere.
The finish line of HÆRVEJSLØBET – The Viking Gran Fondo is on a big square in one of Denmark’s oldest and most charming cities, Viborg; close to the city's 150-year-old cathedral.
An incredible cycling experience for all
We prioritize the ability to choose between both road, MTB and gravel and between long and short distances. An even greater priority is that we all meet in the same destination to share the experiences in the end, although there are different starting points.
Hærvejsløbet - The Viking Gran Fondo is the place where cyclists of all ages and levels meet.
For some, the experience is about being part of something bigger, for others it is about challenging themselves along with friends or colleagues.
Supporting local communities
Hærvejsløbet - The Viking Gran Fondo is organized in cooperation with local clubs and associations along Hærvejen. There are about 1,000 volunteers from various organizations involved in organizing the event.
They arrange starts, signs, food and drink stations and a lot more along the way and in the finish area. For their work before, during and after Haervejsloebet they receive associations fee for their efforts.
Every year, more than 1 million Danish kroner goes to the voluntary associations from Hærvejsløbet - The Viking Gran Fondo to support their work to promote exercise participation in Denmark.
In 2025 Hærvejsløbet - The Viking Gran Fondo is arranged for the 13th time by Denmark's second biggest sports organization, DGI.
