How to get there

It's easy to get to and from Hærvejsløbet - The Viking Gran Fondo. You can drive here yourself or use different means of public transport.

Hærvejsløbet - The Viking Gran Fondo is held in the Danish mainland of Jutland.

The event covers a total area of about 400 kilometers from Aalborg up north to Flensburg down south just accross the German border. There are 15 different starting points spread out accross that section with all routes finishing in Viborg in Central Jutland.

Getting to Denmark by car

It's easy to get to and from the event by car, especially if you drive up to Denmark from countries such as Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg or France.

Follow the A7 up through Germany and enter Denmark at the border crossing just next to Flensburg.

If you're staying in Flensburg, there's no need to drive any further. If you're staying in or closer to Viborg, follow the E45 and turn off at Route 13, Tørring, and follow Route 13 all the way to Viborg.

If you arrive by ferry to Hirtshals or Frederikshavn, follow the E39 or the E45 to Aalborg, if this is where you're staying. If you're staying in or closer to Viborg, continue on E45 and turn off at Route 13 and follow Route 13 all the way to Viborg.

Getting to Denmark by ferry

If you're travelling from Norway or Sweden, cathing a ferry might be the best option.

There are plenty of different options:

Norway

  • Colorline: Kristiansand-Hirtshals and Larvik-Hirtshals
  • Fjord Line: Stavanger-Hirtshals, Bergen-Hirtshals and Kristiansand-Hirtshals
  • DFDS: Oslo-Frederikshavn

Sweden

  • Stena Line: Göteborg-Frederikshavn, Halmstad-Grenaa

Both Hirtshals and Frederikshavn are within an hours drive of the starting city of Aalborg and within two hours of the finishing city of Viborg. Grenaa is within two hours of the finishing city of Viborg.

Getting to Denmark by plane

There are multiple airports in Denmark. The ones closest to the route of Hærvejsløbet - The Viking Gran Fondo are Billund (BLL), Aalborg (AAL) and Aarhus (AAR).

Flying to and from Billund Airport (BLL)

Billund is the biggest airport in Jutland located in the central southern part of Jutland with more than 100 international destinations. Click here to see all destinations.

Flying to and from Aalborg Airport (AAL)

Aalborg is the second biggest airport in Jutland located in Northern Jutland and very close to the start of 125 km road and 95 km gravel. Aalborg has multiple international destinations as well. Click here to see all destinations.

From Aalborg Airport, there's roughly 10 minutes by car to the center of the city and 1 hour by car to Viborg. It's also possible to use public transport. From the central station of Aalborg (Aalborg Busterminal), you can take bus 980 directly to Viborg. Click here to see all options.

Flying to and from Aarhus Airport (AAR)

Aarhus Airport is located in the eastern central part of Jutland and has quite a few international destinations. Click here to see all destinations.

From Aarhus, there's roughly 1:20 hours by car to Viborg. It's also possible to use public transport. From the central station of Aarhus (Aarhus H), which is located 40 km from the airport, you can catch a train directly to Viborg. Click here to see all options.

Flying to and from Hamburg Airport (HAM)

Hamburg Airport is located in the northern part of Germany, but less than two hours drive from the Danish border and the start of the Flensburg 300 km route.

It's also possible to use public transport. From Hamburg Airport, you can take a subway or a bus to Hamburg Central Station and from there another train to Flensburg or Denmark. Click here to see all options.
